This is a question that comes up a lot. Especially when we took SpinChimp and redeveloped it into ChimpRewriter. The re-brand caused a bit of a stir.
Simply put: article spinning is generating multiple copies of some content, and article rewriting is rewriting it once.
Depending on who you ask, people either love or hate article spinning. In some circles, it has built up a bad name thanks to the hoard of dodgy internet marketers who have been doing it wrong. Don’t be this guy!
What the bad guys do is take an article from a website, plug it into some article spinning software and let it automatically spin on the lowest quality settings. This means they get a highly unique article that can generate an insane amount of copies.
It also means they end up with a load of garbage that no one can read.
Article spinning is still a strong force when done properly. In fact, we know of some very popular, professional and successful SEO services which use article spinning. In public, they call it “article rewriting” but on the back end it is the same thing. But they key difference is they use a low volume. For example, they might generate 10-20 versions of one article, and submit these to key Web 2.0 or private blog network properties.
Another key difference when the professionals do it, is that the spinning/rewriting is done almost completely manually. This means you must go through the article and add full sentence replacements using the brilliance of the human brain (which absolutely cannot be replaced by a computer shuffling parts of a sentence around). Next go through and add phrases and words to create a highly unique spun article that will read well.
This is where auto spin comes in. Using a contextually aware part of speech engine, ChimpRewriter analyses the text and breaks it down into nouns, verb, adjectives etc. It will only shuffle the nouns with nouns, verbs with verbs…. and you get the idea. This is critical. BUT, if you haven’t already added paragraph or sentence replacements which significantly differ from the original (not just shuffled around), you are wasting your time!
When to use article spinning?
Generally speaking, article spinning should be used for off-site promotional activities. This means submitting spun content to Web 2.0 and blogs. With one highly spun article, you’ll have multiple unique variation to submit to Web 2.0 properties and blogs. Yes, this still works and will continue to. You can submit to article directories if you like, but after Panda, their effectiveness is next to nothing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using article spinning software to generate articles for this purpose!
My guess is not very often, if ever. Even the lecturers told us how to do it right: “do some research and rewrite it into your own words”.
Anyone who tells you they went through school and university without using the thesaurus function in Word is either lying, inefficient or has way too much time on their hands.
Article rewriting is exactly that. Taking some content, and rewriting into your own words. The final result has essentially the same meaning, it just reads completely different and might have traces of your own opinion. This is the basis for almost ALL information you will read out there on the web. There really is very little original content in the grand scheme of things.
Ultimately, article rewriting is perfectly acceptable so long as you aren’t ripping off content word-for-word!
When to use article rewriting?
Easy. When you want content for your actual website, or a high tier promotional website like a high ranking blog. Article rewriting is just like writing an essay you would hand in to your lecturer and be proud of.
Here is the basis of almost every article ever written: Research, rewrite, add images and submit.
Follow this simple strategy and you’ll have all the content you need. It is relevant, and definitely works.
